There are different forms of yoga that have different intensities. An extreme form of yoga, Bikram and hot yoga, can burn the most calories in comparison to other forms of yoga in the same span of an hour. This form of yoga burns an estimate of over 630 calories an hour, which is equivalent to an hour of jogging.

One-hour Bikram yoga classes involve 26 different positions which are all done twice. These classes are held in very warm room temperatures that are heated in most cases to slightly over 100 degrees. These kinds of conditions build up endurance, and the heat can increase flexibility. It is crucial to bring enough water with you, because you do not want to get dehydrated which would cancel out all the benefits this form of yoga can offer you.

This form of yoga has great weight loss benefits, and the increased heat makes you burn calories faster as your body’s stamina builds up. More energy output is put in to regulate body temperature, so it is important to be well hydrated to help this cooling process. Bikram yoga is not for everyone, but is a great way to burn more calories with yoga.

Yoga is about relaxing and allowing your stress to melt away. The feelings of relaxation and rejuvenation from a gentle routine connects one to their body. Beauty begins from the inside and then shows outside from the feelings of being centered. You should always begin with a gentle routine and keep certain guidelines in mind, such as: always practice on an empty stomach, wear comfortable clothing that allows movement and work out in bare feet. Using a sticky mat avoids slippage and having a towel or cushion and a strap nearby will aid in stretching. Practice at your own pace, this it not a competition.

There are several ways to develp your own simplified routine that are helpful for any age or size. If you are flexible you can add more stretches or techniques into your routine. For example, if you are not flexible, sitting with your legs crossed and keeping your right foot forward is simplied from putting your right foot on top of your legs. Some beginning poses are the Cat Stretch, Cobra Pose, Downward-Facing Dog Pose and Child’s Pose. Yoga can aid in chronic pain relief for people with arthiritis and aid in chronic fatigue syndrome patients.

Bikram yoga was developed by Bikram Choudhury, a yoga instructor born in Calcutta, India in 1946. This type of yoga, which has become tremendously popular in recent years, is composed of traditional yoga poses performed in a very specific manner.

Bikram yoga is done in a room that is heated to 105 degree fahrenheit. Water breaks are allowed at certain intervals. The routine consists of 26 yoga postures and two breathing exercises. There is no variation in the routine and only certified instructors may teach the classes. The classes run for exactly 90 minutes. The yoga must be performed on carpet and the instructor must stay in the front of the room.

Practitioners of this yoga claims that it has three main health benefits. First, because the room is heated, the muscles are relaxed and less prone to injury. Second, practitioners claim that the body sweats out more toxins due to the heated room. Finally, Bikram enthusiasts claim that all the benefits of yoga are multiplied because the body is relaxed and better able to reach and hold the poses.

Bikram yoga is gaining popularity with new centers opening around the world. If you are looking for something a bit different, Bikram yoga may be right for you.

Vinyasa yoga means literally “breath-synchronized movement.” This means that each pose within this yoga style changes when a person breathes in or breathes out. Each pose is changed on an inhale or exhale, and then held for a predetermined number of breaths. The poses in vinyasa yoga classes, also commonly referred to as vinyasa flow, are typically predefined prior to the beginning of the class, though the poses vary from instructor to instructor and class to class. There is emphasis placed on standing poses.

This type of yoga is not only stretching, as it is sometimes perceived, but also emphasizes movement and the connection between breath and body. The classes can be fast or slow, depending on the instructor. The instructor does not follow a single philosophy in vinyasa yoga, so he or she has free reign over the creativity of the class. For this reason, it is essential that a person attending a vinyasa yoga class likes the instructor’s style. Because this type of yoga intensely focuses on breathing and body movement, it can often be difficult and somewhat strenuous especially for beginners. Health benefits from vinyasa yoga include increased metabolism and blood flow, stimulating key organs and reducing the chances of infection while helping the immune system.
